Choosing a Major
It’s okay to be undecided about choosing a major.
Choosing a major can sometimes be overwhelming. But, it can also be very exciting! If you are undecided about your major and career options you are in good company. 70% of students change their major at least once, most will change majors at least three times before they graduate. And that’s okay.
Take Your Time Choosing a Major
To make an informed decision about a major you should get to know yourself, explore different career options, take a few introductory courses, talk to an academic advisor or someone already working in the field you’re interested in. Choosing a major is a process of self-reflection and discovery that may take a few semesters to figure out.
Some things to consider when choosing a major:
- What interests you?
- What inspires you?
- Is there something you have a passion for?
- What are you good at? What skills do you lack?
- What do you value about work and life? Security, flexibility or independence?
