La Plume — 51¶¯Âþ College celebrated its 149th commencement during a virtual ceremony on Saturday, May 23. Originally scheduled to be held at the Pavilion at Montage Mountain, degrees were conferred upon 250 students. 51¶¯Âþ President Tracy L. Brundage, Ph.D., offered remarks to the Class of 2020 and outstanding graduate Daphne A. Leenas, Ringwood, N.J., addressed her classmates.

Political Science professor Jeffrey Brauer named 2020 Chamberlin Chair
51¶¯Âþ College President Tracy L. Brundage, Ph.D. announced that Jeffrey M. Brauer, professor of political science, has been named the 2020 recipient of the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Chair Award for Distinguished Faculty Service.
51¶¯Âþ College donates to food-sharing program
51¶¯Âþ College recently donated about 400 non-perishable items to the Northern Lackawanna County Food Share Program sponsored by the East Benton United Methodist Church in partnership with the CEO/Weinburg Regional Food Bank.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting safety and social distancing requirements, 51¶¯Âþ College will not conduct its in-person Commencement previously scheduled for May 9, 2020 at the Pavilion at Montage.

As a free resource, the Professional Development Institute is offering three online courses at no charge and a selection of courses and certificates with an associated fee that have been specifically selected for this difficult time.

51¶¯Âþ College has hired Janet Jones and John Gorel to direct the college’s Professional Development Institute.
Formed in 2019, the Institute offers workforce development programs connecting education and employment to provide customized, credentialed, and industry-focused coursework, as well as courses for recreation, leisure, and personal enrichment.
